Mike Gummelt began writing games on his Commodore=128 back in high school, but never dreamed he could actually get a job in what would obviously be a highly competitive, highly skilled industry. Besides, his main love was film and writing. So he went to film school, but continued to make games on the side – including mods for Doom & Quake (like Aliens Doom 3, Marines Doom 2, Ultimate Quake). When he heard Raven was hiring people experienced in Quake C, he applied assuming it would be an interesting summer job while he figured out how he was ever actually going to get into the film industry.
14 years later, he’s still at Raven. He never dreamed he’d get to work on some of his favorite franchises of all time (Star Trek, Star Wars, Marvel Comics) and he never thought a job could be this much fun. Over various projects, he’s done all sorts of duties (scripting, programming AI and game mechanics, writing the dialogue, being a lead, etc.) and worked on something like 15 games. Making games for a living was a dream he didn’t even dare to dream – but it came true anyway!
